West Virginia State University is a 4-year public institution founded in 1891. WVSU offers certificates, Bachelor's and Master's degrees. The student population is 3,638 (3,502 undergraduate). The student to faculty ratio is 12 to 1. WVSU is NCAA Division II (MEC conference) participating in men's baseball, football, basketball, golf, tennis and women's softball, basketball, soccer, tennis and volleyball.

Applicants must intend to major in one of the following: students majoring in the university's four agriculture-related degree programs: B.S. in Biology - Option in Plant and Soil Science; B.S. in Chemistry - Option in Applied Chemistry; B.S. in Business Administration - Concentration in Agribusiness; and B.A. in Economics - Concentration in Agricultural Economics.
Detailed renewal requirements are provided in the college contract when the recipient is awarded the scholarship.
