Short description

Morris College, located in the city of Sumter, South Carolina, was founded in 1908 under the auspices of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina. This private, Baptist-affiliated historically black college was established with a vision to provide quality education to African-American students during a period when such opportunities were scarce. Over the years, Morris College has remained steadfast in its mission, growing both in size and in the scope of its academic offerings.

Today, Morris College enrolls approximately 384 students and offers a range of Bachelor’s degree programs. The college is particularly known for its strong programs in Business Administration, Management and Operations, Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration, and Community Health Services. These programs are designed to prepare students not only for professional success but also for meaningful contributions to their communities, aligning with the college's motto: "Intrare Libris, Dispartire Servire," which translates to “Enter to Learn; Depart to Serve.”

In the realm of athletics, Morris College competes in the NCAA Division II as part of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC). The college's athletic teams, known as the Hornets, participate in various sports, embodying the spirit of teamwork and excellence. The college's commitment to developing well-rounded individuals is evident in its blend of rigorous academics, vibrant campus life, and active athletic participation, making Morris College a nurturing ground for future leaders.
